Czech ice hockey club Bílí Tygři Liberec have roots that trace back to the early development of hockey in Liberec, with organised play emerging before World War II and later consolidating into a single club in 1956 under the name Lokomotiva Liberec. Over the following decades, the team mostly competed in lower tiers, with periods of decline, until a major turning point came in 2000 when the club adopted its current name and identity, followed by promotion to the Czech Extraliga in 2002, marking their arrival among the country’s elite teams.
The club are named Bílí Tygři, “White Tigers” in English, after the rare animal that is famously kept in the Liberec Zoo. Liberec have established themselves as one of the stronger clubs in modern Czech hockey, particularly since the mid-2000s. The pinnacle of their success came in the 2015/16 season, when the team won their first Czech Extraliga title after previously falling short in the playoffs despite strong regular season performances. In addition to that championship, the club have earned multiple silver and bronze medals, while also dominating the regular season on several occasions.
They've participated in five past Champions Hockey League seasons, making it as far as the Semi-Finals in 2017/18. 2026/27 marks a big return to the pan-European club ice hockey stage for the club, who have not played in over 6 years.
