HK Nitra are one of the oldest and most respected ice hockey clubs in Slovakia, with roots dating back to the mid-1920s . Over the decades, the organisation went through several name changes while building a strong hockey tradition in the city of Nitra. During the Czechoslovak era, the club spent many seasons competing in the Slovak National Hockey League and gradually established itself as a consistent force in Slovak hockey.
HK Nitra became especially successful during the 1980s and early 1990s, when the club repeatedly pushed for promotion into the top Czechoslovak competition. After Slovakia became independent in 1993, Nitra joined the new Slovak Extraliga and slowly transformed into one of the country’s strongest clubs. The breakthrough years came in the 2010s, when the club regularly reached the playoffs and won medals. Nitra finished as runners-up in 2013/14 before finally capturing their first Slovak championship in the 2015/16 season.
They won the title again in 2023/24 and most recently in 2025/26, qualifying them for their third season in the Champions Hockey League and first since 2016/17.
