Despite losing on Thursday night, Dusseldorfer EG claimed the sixth and final German CHL spot for the 2015–16 season because Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams, the last challenger standing for the remaining B-License, were eliminated.

The German DEL Final is not quite set, but the league's participation in the 2015–16 CHL season is. On Thursday night, Adler Mannheim completed a four-game sweep of Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in the semi-finals with a 5–3 victory. On the same night, ERC Ingolstadt beat Dusseldorfer EG 5–2 to take a 3–1 lead in their series. 

Due to the fact that Mannheim and Ingolstadt are both CHL A-License holders, that leaves Dusseldorf to claim the second B-License spot. Even if they lose their series with Ingolstadt, their fifth-place finish in the regular season is enough to give them the spot ahead of Wolfsburg, who finished eighth.

Dusseldorf join Red Bull Munich as the two B-License qualifiers from the DEL. Munich qualified by finishing second in the regular season, before being shocked by Wolfsburg in the quarter-finals in four straight games. Dusseldorf eliminated one of last year's German CHL clubs, the Hamburg Freezers, in the semi-finals, by winning game seven in Hamburg by a 2–1 score.

The Ingolstadt-Dusseldorf series resumes on Saturday night. If Ingolstadt win, they advance to the final to face Mannheim. Dusseldorf need to win three in a row to make the final.
