It's Movember moustache time again, CHL clubs show their support

Less than one week to go until Movember starts. It’s the time when moustaches grow – for men’s health charity reasons.The CHL supports the Movember Foundation’s aim and encourages its fans to support the movement. After signing up, get friends, family, or colleagues to donate to your efforts and change the face of men’s health.

When the Champions Hockey League returns to the ice for the Round of 16, the moustaches will join the players. They won't be really big yet on the third day of November, but by the return games on the 10th, we'll start to see some pretty hairy upper lips inside the arenas all over Europe. But what are these moustaches all about? They're part of the Movember campaign, which brings attention to four men’s health topics and raises money for over 1000 related programmes (see key points below).

Over the years the Movember campaign has established incredible success from the global ice hockey community. Some CHL teams are involved in the movement, especially Norway's Stavanger Oilers and Sweden's Frolunda Gothenburg from among the remaining participants. Stavanger have been the top fundraising team in Norway for the past three years, while Frolunda were the top fundraisers in Sweden in 2014. Both teams will show their commitment this year again.

“The Stavanger Oilers’ main slogan is 'Together we are strong.' For us, Movember is a way to live this slogan. We also have a lot of fun across the Oilers family during the campaign. It's a great way to be involved in the challenge of changing the face of men’s health,” says Stavanger captain Kristian Forsberg.

“We are competitors on the ice, but we are united around Movember – a great initiative for an important cause. It’s important to take a stand and spread awareness of men’s health issues. It’s a topic that needs to be addressed and if we as hockey players can make a difference, we most certainly will,” says Frolunda captain Christoffer Persson.

The entire Finnish Liiga has also gotten involved over the years, along with a number of German, Austrian, Czech and Swiss teams. The entire Swedish Hockey League has committed to support the campaign this year, with each club signing up and dedicating one regular season home game to Movember.

Every November we challenge men to grow and groom a moustache for the 30 days of the month. Men start on the 1st of November clean-shaven and grow only a moustache for the month – no beards, no goatees.
