There is just one game on the second Sunday of CHL action, as JYP Jyvaskyla host Linkoping HC at 16:00 CET, 17:00 EET. Read more in Gamecentre.
JYP and Linkoping meet for the first time this Champions Hockey League season after both sides were victorious in Gap in their respective opening games. While both are expected to go through to the next round, the winner of this game will get the leg up on finishing first in Group K.
These teams have not met before in the competition, although JYP faced Swedish opposition in the first season in the form of HV71 and Skelleftea AIK with mixed results. Last season, they lost out to eventual winners Frolunda both home and away in the group stage.
Linkoping's record against Liiga teams is impressive though, having only lost once in four meetings against teams from over the eastern border.
“We have met Linkoping and other Swedish teams quite often and we know the hockey which is played in Sweden: good skaters with nice passing plays," says head coach Marko Virtanen. "It will be interesting to see ex-JYP Kristian Nakyva in a Linkoping jersey.”
Since leaving JYP, Nakyva was a CHL champion with Lulea Hockey in 2014-15 and played last season with the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL. This year he makes his return to Sweden.
From behind the Linkoping bench, head coach Dan Tangnes added, "JYP is a great team from Finland and as we know the Finnish teams always have great results in the CHL.”
This game will be JYP's first CHL home game this season. Their return meeting in Linkoping will take place this coming Friday.
