With this week's return legs on the horizon, we again take a look at the domestic form of the eight remaining CHL teams heading into the Quarter-Finals.
It was back to domestic action for the eight remaining CHL teams after their first-leg matches last week. We chart their league form ahead of a return to European action.
Sparta Prague returned to Extraliga action with two impressive wins after their tie in Bern. Friday's visit to Pardubice saw Sparta come away with a 5-1 win, before they then travelled to Liberec and beat third-placed Bili Tygri 3-1 on their own ice. For Vitkovice Ridera Ostrava, who were well beaten by Fribourg-Gotteron at home in the CHL, it was a tale of two games decided after the 60 minute mark – a 4-3 OT home win over Chomutov, but a shootout defeat to lowly Zlin. In both games, Vitkovice needed an equalizer inside the final five minutes to get a point and force extra time.
After their scoreless tie with the Vaxjo Lakers, it was a good return to the NLA for ZSC Lions Zurich, who managed victories over Langnau (4-3) and Davos (3-1) to send them back into the CHL off the back of two wins. SC Bern were also double winners, beating Langnau (4-2) and Kloten (4-1) to keep them just a point behind the league-leading Lions, while Fribourg have now slipped to the bottom of the NLA – losses to Zug (2-5) and Ambri (3-6) casting them two points adrift at the foot of table.
Finally in Sweden, both Frolunda Gothenburg and Linkoping HC were beaten on the road Thursday night in the SHL – the former blanked 4-0 by Leksand, and the latter going down 3-1 in Karlskrona. Vaxjo, on the other hand, returned to Sweden to beat struggling Djurgarden Stockholm 4-1 at home. Two nights ago, Frolunda got back to winning ways but at the expense of Vaxjo, with an 8-5 win for the hosts in Gothenburg. Linkoping came through a tight game in Jonkoping to beat HV71 3-2 and head into their home game against Frolunda on the back of a win.
