Greg Mauldin, who has eight goals in four Champions Hockey League games for Fribourg-Gottéron, suffered a broken jaw in practice on Tuesday and will be out of action for the next six weeks.

The Fribourg-Gottéron club website is reporting that Greg Mauldin was struck by a puck in the jaw Tuesday morning during practice, which resulted in multiple fractures. He is scheduled for surgery Wednesday morning and will be off the ice for at least the next six weeks.

In four Champions Hockey League games so far, Mauldin has eight points, all of them goals. He is the only player in the competition who has scored more than five goals so far and his point total is third overall, behind the Frölunda Gothenburg duo of Mathis Olimb and Andreas Johnsson.

In his most recent game, Mauldin scored two goals in regulation time and then scored the shootout-winning goal against PSG Zlin to vault Fribourg into first place in Group D. With Mauldin out of the lineup, Fribourg's Cramo Top Scorer jersey and helmet get passed to linemate Marc-Antoine Pouliot, who has seven points.

In addition to missing the first six weeks of the Swiss NLA season, he will also miss Fribourg's last two games in the CHL group stage. If his recovery goes according to schedule, he should be able to play in the event his club reaches the playoff round, which begins in early November. Currently, Fribourg has eight points, one ahead of PSG Zlin and two ahead of Djurgarden Stockholm.
