Game 1
Ocelari Trinec and HV71 traded goals in each of the first two periods, and overall played to a fair 2–2 result after 60 minutes of this 120-minute home-and-away series. Both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the third, particularly Trinec, who had a four-minute power play, but nobody scored in the last period, meaning this series will be decided in Sweden.
“I think we played an okay game,” HV71 coach Johan Lindbom figured. “The first period wasn’t that good, we had low tempo, low puck tempo. From the second period on we played well. We had some scoring chances, scored two goals. The last period was full of penalties. We had some power plays, some chances, but didn’t manage to score. But it was a solid game, I’m satisfied. But as I said, we want to win everytime. We have a good chance of winning at home and advancing into next round.”
“I’m pleased with the way we played, but one more goal would have been good,” said Trinec coach Jiri Kalous, who obviously would have liked a win from his home half. “Today I recognized our team. We played well, had some chances. I think that we are missing a bit of luck in key moments. However, I’m not happy about our last power play. It was a long power play but we played badly in it. Overall I’m satisfied. HV71 is typical Swedish team, a very good team. I’m pleased that we were equally good in this game.”

This Round of 32 match-up features two teams that had very different group stage experiences. HV71 were one of four teams to take the maximum 12 points in a top-heavy Group C, while Ocelari Trinec had to battle for every point in a very even Group L. While HV71 had top spot in their group virtually locked up after two games, Trinec needed to come up with a big win in their last game to advance – and they did win big, 6–0 over KalPa Kuopio. This match-up between two teams that have a lot of offensive firepower figures to be a very entertaining one.
Closer look: HV71 Jonkoping
(4-0-0-0, 12 points, 16:4, 1st in Group C)
As mentioned HV71 won their group with relative ease. They were expected to battle for top spot with Red Bull Salzburg – a team that beat them twice last year – and the two teams were scoreless after 40 minutes in their first meeting, but then HV71 out-scored them 4–1 in the third period and never looked back. With that kind of success so far, they might have their sights set on a long CHL run, but they'd best not look past their opponents in the Round of 32 – a scrappy Trinec squad that figures to give them a greater challenge than they've received so far.

Simon
Onerud
2+3, +5
Top Forward & CRAMO Top Scorer: HV71 forward Simon Onerud has started the CHL quite well. He has 5 points in 4 games and is the team's leading scorer after the group stage. With his precision and great shot, he's dangerous on almost every offensive play. He's also a tough player that likes to play a physical game.

Chris
Campoli
2+1, +4
Top Defenceman: Chris Campoli may be the biggest star on the HV71 defence. He's a natural leader and a good two-way player. Campoli has great hockey sense and doesn't hesitate to take a shot. So far this season, Campoli has been paired up with veteran Ryan O´Byrne, which will certainly make him develop even more.

Erik
Ersberg
95.35%
Top Goaltender: Erik Ersberg, HV71's starting goalie, has been watching the net along with Fredrik Pettersson-Wentzel. With a save percentage of 95.35, Ersberg is ranked 13th among CHL goaltenders. If he gets more minutes between the pipes, he will certainly grow as a top goalie.

Closer look: Ocelari Trinec
(1-1-1-1, 6 points, 14:11, 2nd in Group L)
This was the second year in a row that Trinec found themselves in a very competitive group. Last year they ended up on the outside looking in, while this year they advanced, thanks to some timely performances from key players. Trinec have been one of the top teams in the Czech Extraliga over the past few seasons, winning the title once and making the finals last year after winning the regular season. That shows they have the ability to win when the pressure's on, and the pressure is certainly on now against an HV71 squad that has yet to concede a point in the CHL.

Erik
Hrna
4+3, +2
Top Forward & CRAMO Top Scorer: Last season’s scoring champion in the Czech Extraliga, Erik Hrna has started off right where he left off last year. With 7 points in the group stage, Hrna sits in fourth place among all point-getters in the CHL after the group stage. In the last game against Kalpa, Hrna scored three times in a must-win game.

Rostislav
Klesla
2+1, +3
Top Defenceman: After 14 seasons and 659 games in the NHL, Rostislav Klesla returned to Czech republic. As Trinec's captain, Klesla is the leader of the Ocelari defence. But his contributions are not only defensive not only defence – his 2 goals and 1 assist in an overtime win over Stavanger earned him a "Player of the Round" nomination, and helped his team get 2 points that proved to be very crucial.

Peter
Hamerlik
91.76 %
Top Goaltender: Another veteran player in the Trinec lineup is 33-year-old goalie Peter Hamerlik, who is starting his seventh season with the club. The Slovak netminder was one of the main pillars of Ocelari's national title in 2011. Although Hamerlik usually rotates in net with Simon Hrubec, he got the bulk of the work during the group stage and his statistics are better than Hrubec's at the moment.
