Färjestad Karlstad punched their ticket to their first-ever Champions Hockey League Final appearance as they defeated Sparta Prague 10-4 on aggregate in a series that saw their offence dominate from start to finish.
Just like in the First Game, the Swedes held firm, backed up by some amazing goaltending and high productivity up front, to make their passage to the next round as easy as possible.
"It was a tough game, especially mentally. I think for half of the game they were really the better team, but good special teams, solid goaltending and our teamwork won us the game," said David Tomášek after the final buzzer.
"If you get this far you really have to be one of the top organisations in Europe"David Tomášek, Färjestad Karlstad
It was a rather special game for the 28-year-old who played over 140 games for his opponent of the night Sparta: "It was unfortunate I couldn't make the trip to Prague last week due to injury - I was really upset about that - but our guys did a great job down there. I was just about fit for the Return Game because I really wanted to play," he noted.
"I'm also really thankful to the Sparta fans who gave me a few cheers in the game tonight. Being from the away team in a game like this, it was really cool! It was special and I'm really glad," added the IIHF Ice Hockey World Champion.
All focus now on the upcoming CHL Final in Zurich. How has the journey been so far to this point?
"If you get this far you really have to be one of the tough organisations in Europe, facing different teams with different styles is also demanding. And the aggregate scoring in the Playoffs is also a little bit of a different mental aspect, though that drops off in the Final," he concluded.
Results later in the night determined the Swedish team would face ZSC Lions Zurich in the ultimate game of the CHL season.
