The Champions Hockey League media roadshow moved to Helsinki today on the penultimate leg of its preseason tour. Representatives of the league were joined by those from the five Liiga teams in the competition.
"It was great to see different culture just after years in North America" said Lauri Korpikoski of TPS about playing against Nottingham Panthers last year. Kalle Kaskinen, Head Coach, added "We have contacted teams that have played against our opponentsl ast year. I feel the team has now more players in their prime than last year".
IFK Helsinki's Tommi Santala is looking forward to road games, saying "It is good to start with away games, helping the team spirit." Head Coach Ari-Pekka Selin added: "We have tried to improve special teams, every player should be useful either in PP or PK. Central European teams have really good fans and those places are tough to play".
Tappara went out to JYP last year in the playoffs, but Kristian Kuusela looks forward to those games. "The playoffs are always very close and we lost to the best team last year" he said.
Kärpät Oulu return to the CHL after a year out. "We would rather win 7-6 than 1-0, and try to be a very quick team," said Head Coach Mikko Manner. "It's a bigger challenge when you don't know opponents that well, unlike teams in Finland."
Jani Tuppurainen, who won the CHL with JYP last season, is looking forward to the teams in their group this year, which will see them visit the Czech Republic, France and Germany. "It is first time meeting these teams but of course having some experience of their countries."
New Head Coach Lauri Merikivi finished: "You can't be in a better situation than in defending your title". And commenting on hot prospect Anttoni Honka, he added: "He's a real natural talent. It shows he's from the hockey family and he has an exceptional view to the game."
