1. Record High
Lausanne HC have never won the Swiss championship, but this season was their highest ever regular season finish. The side were third after all rounds in the Swiss League, beating their fourth place two seasons ago.
2. Arena
From 1984 until 2017, the team played it’s home games at the 7,600 capacity CIG de Malley. Since the start of the 2017/18 season, they are in a temporary arena while a new venue is built on the site of the old building. When opened, the Vaudoise aréna will seat 10,000 people for hockey.
3. Youth Olympics
Lausanne is hosting the 2020 Youth Olympics. All events, apart from the Opening Ceremony, will be free to watch.
4. Long history
Founded in 1922, Lausanne are one of the oldest teams in Switzerland. The team spent 17 years in the Swiss second tier from 1961 onwards, before being promoted back up in 1978. Since then they’ve bounced between the two leagues, but have now been in the top flight since 2013/14.
5. "Want to win? Hire a Finn!"
The team’s Head Coach is Finn Ville Peltonen. As a player the now 45-year old won World Championship gold, silver, and bronze (3x) with Finland; has an Olympic silver and bronze, and is a two-time Liiga Champion. He also won the Swiss title with HC Lugano is 2006 as captain of the team, and played 382 NHL games over five seasons.
