In what has to be a contender for one of the biggest CHL opening day shocks, Adler Mannheim stunned Swedish Champions HV71 to win 4-1 on the road.

The visitors from the DEL got off to the best possible start, Brent Radeke putting his team ahead with just 6:45 played. A well-worked counter-attack then saw David Wolf double the lead on 16 minutes to give the Adler a surprise 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

HV71 responded midway through the middle period, Ken Stenlund's slapshot rocketing past the goalie with just over 31 minutes played to half the deficit.

That was however as good as it got for the home side - David Wolf striking again to make it 3-1 at 32:09, and then just 52 seconds into the final period Matthias Plachta put the game to bed with a slapshot from the blueline.
