HC Bolzano will be looking to go one better than the last time they reached the Round of 16 when they face Lukko Rauma for the first time in the Champions Hockey League Round of 16. Bolzano were eliminated from the Round of 16 in 2018/19 - their best campaign in the competition - but face a difficult task to overcome the Finns in what should be an intriguing tie over two games.
The two sides showed impressive resilience in the Group Stage, completing their respective campaigns without suffering a regulation defeat. Lukko stormed their way into the knockout stages, coming through as winners of Group C. Marko Virtanen's team have advanced beyond the Round of 16 on two previous occasions, reaching the Quarter-Finals in 2014/15 before going one better the following season, where they reached the Semi-Final stage.
Bolzano meanwhile advanced as runners-up in Group H and head into the tie with the home advantage in Italy in the latest stage of a campaign that has seen them build momentum and confidence. The Foxes will need to be at their clinical best however, if they are to take control of the first-leg against a defensively-sound Lukko outfit.
The Finns completed the Group Stage with the fifth-best goals-against-per-game record (1.83) in the competition, as well as a resolute penalty kill unit that ranks second best in the competition at an impressive 90.91 percent.
