They were just picked in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and this season they might appear for their club teams in the Champions Hockey League.
Twelve players from nine different clubs that will compete in the 2021/22 CHL season were selected, led by Simon Edvinsson of Frölunda Gothenburg, who was picked 6th overall by the Detroit Red Wings.
Edvinsson was one of three Frölunda players taken, with William Dower Nilsson also going to Detroit in the fifth round.
Two players were taken from TPS Turku and one each from Leksands IF, Skellefteå AIK, HC Lugano, Växjö Lakers, IFK Helsinki, Eisbären Berlin and Tappara Tampere.
In addition, two players whose clubs won't compete this season but did appear in the 2019/20 CHL season were also selected.
Right after Edvinsson was selected at No. 6, William Eklund, who played 2 games for Djurgården Stockholm as a 16-year-old, was taken 7th overall by the San Jose Sharks. Then late in the second round, Janis Jérôme Moser, who recorded 3 points in 9 games for EHC Biel-Bienne, was chosen by the Arizona Coyotes.
