The CHL Sport Disciplinary Panel has ruled to suspend Martin Kohout (#46) of Mountfield HK, who at time 38:07 was involved in an incident deemed as a “Head-Butt” (IIHF Rule 47). The video evidence has determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline under Category 1 – “Careless”.
According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the CHL PSC, Martin Kohout (#46) of Mountfield HK, will receive supplementary discipline under IIHF Rule 47 - Head-Butting.
Sunday afternoon, Mountfield player #46 Martin Kohout used an illegal action, deemed as Head-Butting, against Bolzano D-Man #45 Mark Barberio in which he was assessed a Major Penalty and an automatic Game Misconduct.
As the video shows, Barberio engages with Kohout as play is moving up ice. As play continues, with Barberio engaging Kohout, Kohout retaliates with a body movement, leading with his head making head-to-head contact, which is deemed illegal.
This is Head-Butting.
It is important to note, this is not deemed an incidental type of movement, where two players’ heads can make contact within an ice battle. Instead, it is deemed that Kohout made a purposeful head movement directly at Barberio, striking Barberio in the head. Considering Kohout aware of Barberio, the 2 players engaged and Kohout starting and finishing his body movement with his head, demonstrates this is not an incidental head movement, raising the head movement to a head-butt, warranting supplementary discipline.
The CHL Sport Disciplinary Panel suspends Martin Kohout (#46) of Mountfield HK for 1 game, effective immediately, and issue a fine of €700, effective immediately. In addition, Martin Kohout (#46), will be considered a repeat offender in the event additional supplementary discipline is required within the CHL.
