DEL club Augsburger Panther made their debut in the Champions Hockey League in 2019/20 and hit the ground running. Their exciting and intense style of play quickly caught the attention of all hockey fans and highlight reels were full of their late comeback goals. But when asked what they would highlight from their very first season of top European hockey, they all agreed that there is only one #MyCHLMoment for them.
The moment in question was from their second match of the season. After an intense shootout victory over 2015 CHL Champions Luleå Hockey in their first match of the season, Augsburg travelled to Belfast to take on the Belfast Giants. Despite Augsburg opening the scoring on the night, the Giants tied the game 1-1 in the first period. A goal on each side later and 60 minutes of game time up, the game was locked at 2-2 and in Overtime.
But up stepped Augsburg’s Canadian forward Matthew Fraser. He found himself on the end of a sensational combo from teammates Simon Sezemsky and Sahir Gill and didn’t hesitate in firing the puck into the back of the Belfast net to win his team the game. The travelling Augsburg fans erupted in joy, as did the players on the ice.
Take a look at the goal for yourself and listen to Matt and his teammates describe just what a special night that was in the video below.
