After several seasons of under-achieving in the Champions Hockey League, Mountfield HK finally left their mark on Europe with a run all the way to the 2019/20 final - before eventually coming up short.
It was a momentous run for the team from Kradec Králové, not just in turning around their European fortunes but also reaching the organisation's first-ever final - their previous best in the Czech Extraliga was bowing out in the semis. En route to their runners-up medals, Mountfield shut out both EV Zug and Djurgården Stockholm in one leg of the Quater-Finals and Semi-Finals respectively, and only conceded three playoff goals up until the final.
Team captain Radek Smoleňák put up seven points on that trip to the final, and recalls the entire CHL campaign fondly - including a road trip with their fans to Graz, and the whole city buzzing with excitement about the 2020 CHL Final!
