This week's category is a simple one: Which goalies have made the most saves in CHL history? Of course this will need a netminder to have played a decent number of games to be included, but we're celebrating some of the players that have been there over multiple seasons backstopping their teams!
Leading the way with a massive 1,142 saves is Leonardo Genoni! The Swiss goalie has played in the CHL in five of the six seasons since 2014, for HC Davos, SC Bern and most recently EV Zug. He's saved over 90% of shots in all bar one of the seasons, too. We stay in Switzerland for number two on our list with Tobias Stephan. The 36-year-old backstopped Zug for five seasons before helping Lausanne into the Quarter-Finals in 2019/20. Over that time, he's played 35 games and turned away 977 shots. Third is German stopper Danny aus den Birken who has a CHL Runners-Up medal from 2019. The Red Bull Munich stopper has saved 820 shots in his 34 CHL game to date.
It's back to Switzerland for number four on the all-time list with Lukas Flüeler, who has backstopped ZSC Lions over five CHL campaigns for a total of 675 pucks fired at him saved. Completing our top five is American Jean-Phillippe Lamoureux. part of the Vienna side which dominated their own league for several seasons, JP also played in the CHL for Villach in 2014 as part of his three seasons in Europe's top-flight where he made 581 saves. In at number six is Great Britain starting goalie Ben Bowns. The Yorkshireman has played in three seasons for Cardiff in the CHL and saved 577 shots in just 18 games!
Swede Johan Gustafsson comes in at #7 with five seasons and 28 games under his belt in the CHL, the majority for Frölunda and most recent at Adler Mannheim. In total, he's saved 524 shots in 28 games played. Teemu Lassila comes next on our list and has four seasons in the CHL - 15 games for TPS over two campaigns, four in Tappara and then three with Banská Bystrica. He's turned away a total of 510 pucks in those 22 games.
Oskari Setänen comes in ninth overall. With Lukko Rauma in 2014/15 where he played nine games, the Finn then returned to his homeland and played a further 21 for TPS in three seasons - he totals 497 shots stopped in 21 games. Another CHL champion comes in at number ten, Joel Lassinatti. He backstopped Luleå to the European Trophy in 2015, and has gone on to play in three more CHL seasons with the team including this most recent one. Over 27 games he's stopped 488 shots.
