- Both teams won their debut CHL matches
- The Belfast Giants scored 5 goals on Game Day 1, whilst Augsburger Panther only managed 2
- Belfast defied predictions and beat Czech Regular Season winners Bílí Tygři Liberec, whilst Augsburg managed to keep their cool in the penalty shootout
Augsburger Panther come into their second CHL match off the back of hard fought 3-2 win over former CHL champions Luleå Hockey on the road. Their debut Champions Hockey League match thoroughly tested their readiness for the competition, as despite scoring first, they had to come back from 2-1 down in the third period, hold of Luleå in overtime and hold their nerve in the shootout. After all this, the Panther rightly feel prepared for another challenge in the form of the Belfast Giants.
The Giants themselves had a very eventful match against 2017/18 Semi-Finalists Bílí Tygři Liberec. Their CHL debut resulted in a nine-goal thriller against the Czech Regular Season champs saw them have nearly 20 more shots on goal and over 30 less penalty minutes. If this doesn’t show their determination to succeed this year, nothing does. The Giants could also use their home ice and fans to their advantage, with nearly 3,000 fans at their first CHL game, it’s expected that more will come after such a performance.
Both teams will look to add another win to their portfolio and if their previous games are anything to go by, they both have it in them to win.
