- Grenoble sit within just a point from Skellefteå in the Group E standings (3 points for Grenoble, 4 for Skellefteå)
- Skellefteå have only lost to Grenoble so far this season
- Grenoble have faced Group E favourites Kärpät Oulu twice already - depsite losing both matches, they have proven that they can play against the best
Skellefteå AIK have won two of their three games and have shown they are a very tough team to beat (they have beaten Bern twice already), but their sole loss came when they faced underdogs Grenoble at home last week. The 2-1 game saw Grenoble withstand a strong Skellefteå offensive in the third period. They even had to result to calling the goalie to the bench and getting an extra skater on the ice to stand a chance of tying the game, but Grenoble firmly stuck to their game plan and ended the game with an open net goal from Joël Champagne’s clearance. Jesper Frödén’s goal 4 seconds before the final whistle had no chance of taking the hard-fought win from Grenoble on the night.
Grenoble’s other two games have been losses against Kärpät Oulu, who are currently top of Group E with 7 points, but Grenoble’s surprise three points against Skellefteå have done enough to still give them a chance to make the elimination rounds, since both second-placed Skellefteå and third-placed Bern are tied at 4 points each and both sit within just a point from Grenoble. Can they beat Skellefteå again a jump to second place in what would be a very unpredicted turn of events?
