- Frölunda have won 4 of previous 5 opening games
- Graz99ers, EBEL Regular Season Round Winners
- Frölunda 3-time European Trophy Winners
3-time and defending CHL Champions Frölunda Indians face a tricky test in the opening game of the 2019/20 season. They welcome CHL newcomer and last season’s EBEL Regular Season Round Winners, Graz99ers. Both teams will be looking to get off to a quick start in what looks to be a very tricky Group G.
All the usual suspects are there for Frölunda, who have continued to hold on to stars such as Joel Lundqvist, Ryan Lasch and Brandon Gormley. The club has also welcomed home one of its favourite sons, Nicklas Lasu, who returns to the club after a two-year spell with Kärpät Oulu. Canadian defenceman Karl Stollery also joins the club after a spell with KHL side Jokerit. In pre-season Frölunda have already recorded wins over fellow Swedish sides Färjestad Karlstad and Växjö Lakers.
It is a huge welcome to Graz99ers in 2019/20. The club from Styria become the eighth EBEL club to have played in the CHL. Led by Austrian legend Oliver Setzinger, the 99ers have strengthened in a crucial area this summer – goaltending. The club have signed Swedish former NHLer Cristopher Nihlstorp, who joins alongside his compatriots Sebastian Collberg and Joakim Hillding. Be sure to look out for Colton Yellow Horn and Dwight King. Collberg scored in the 99ers final pre-season game, a 3-1 win over Stavanger Oilers.
