- Färjestad secured a commanding 6-3 victory in the first leg
- Twk goal performances for both Victor Ejdsell and Per Åslund
- Reigning champions Frölunda have a three goal deficit to over turn
After the first leg of the Round of 16 clash between Färjestad Karlstad and the Frölunda Indians, Färjestad are in the driver’s seat with a three goal aggregate lead, but reigning champions Frölunda will be looking to use home ice to their advantage as they look to claw back from three goals down, to try and keep their hopes of a fourth CHL title alive.
Frölunda struggled on the road last week as Färjestad dominated the first leg, but on home ice, you can never rule Frölunda out. They showed signs of their dominance in the latter stages of the first tie, but they’ll need to have a strong start to claw their way back into this one. Ryan Lasch was once again on the scoresheet for them last week, and he’ll be a key figure in this tie again. The CHL’s all-time leading scorer has been vital to Frölunda’s success in the CHL and domestic action for a number of years, and his veteran leadership mixed with the likes of Joel Lundqvist, who needs just one more point to become the second player in CHL history to reach 50, will really help the team’s scoring on Tuesday night.
For Färjestad they just need to continue where they left off. A solid performance in all areas on the ice last week helped them to a three-goal lead in the first leg. Both Victor Ejdsell and Per Åslund scored twice in the contest, with Marcus Nilsson and Daniel Viksten grabbing the other two goals, while goalie Markus Svensson stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced on the night. Färjestad got off to a fantastic start last week as Nilsson scored with just 40 seconds played, so a fast start could be vital to help them close this one out in the final 60 minutes, knocking out the reigning champions and moving on the Quarter-Finals for the first time.
