- Ambrì-Piotta can longer qualify after Färjestad beat Munich in regulation
- The legendary “Biancoblù” fans of Ambrì-Piotta will be out in full force to cheer their team on – Banská Bystrica should be worried
- Ambrì-Piotta won the first leg in Slovakia 4-0
HC Ambrì-Piotta host their final CHL game of the season at the Valascia, and welcome Slovak side HC05 Banská Bystrica with both teams unable to qualify from Group G
The 2019/20 CHL season will end for Banská Bystrica after this game, as it did in both of their two previous appearances in the competition. With three points from an overtime loss and an overtime win they are bottom of Group G and stand no chance of qualifying for the Playoffs but when looking back at their season, all isn’t as bad as it first seems – they have been the only team to beat last year’s Finalists Red Bull Munich back on Game Day 3 so far. Banská Bystrica will certainly be looking to end the season on a high and win their final European game of the year.
Despite currently sitting in the relegation zone of the Swiss National League, HC Ambrì-Piotta are still within reaching distance of the CHL Playoffs – with seven points from two regulation wins and an overtime loss, they sit third in Group G and are trailing behind second-placed Färjestad Karlstad by just a single point.
The pressure is on for them, as if they want to advance to the Playoffs, they need to secure points. They’ve shown they can handle it – when put in a similar position last week in Slovakia, they played like it was the final game of their lives and decisively beat Banská Bystrica 4-0, their highest win of the season. Despite this resurgence in CHL form, the early losses on the road were too much to recover from. Look for the Swiss side to try and gain confidence for what has been a stuttering start to their domestic campaign as well
