- KAC Klagenfurt come in after big win against Tappara Tampere
- Frisk Asker had a strong performance in their opener despite a loss
- Lars Haugen stopped 22 of 24 shots for Klagenfurt in their opener
With action on Game Day 2 getting underway, it’s a clash between Austria’s KAC Klagenfurt who picked up all three points in their first game, against a debut side in Frisk Asker of Norway who put up a strong performance against EHC Biel-Bienne despite the regulation loss.
Klagenfurt remain at home for this encounter, the same venue where they picked up a 3-2 win over Tappara Tampere in their first game back after a year out of the competition. 27-year-old Matthew Neal scored the game winner in the second period to give his side the three points, putting them top of Group A. With a strong performance in net by Lars Haugen, they’ll be relying on the Norwegian international to continue his strong performance against Frisk Asker on Saturday night.
Frisk Asker had a good showing on Thursday night against EHC Biel-Bienne but couldn’t grab a crucial goal in the third period to force overtime and secure a point. The Norwegian team are coming into just their second ever Champions Hockey League game and if Thursday was anything to go by, they’ll give Klagenfurt a big test on Saturday. Defenseman Nicolay Andresen got the only goal of the game for Asker while the strongest performance came from netminder Nicklas Dahlberg who stopped 43 of the 45 shots he faced and once again he’ll be heavily relied on in this contest.
