- Skellefteå lead Group E coming into Game Day 6
- Kärpät sit second after 2-0 loss to Skellefteå last week
- Three teams still in the hunt to progress in Group E
The fate of whether the journey in this year’s Champions Hockey League still undecided for many teams heading into Game Day 6 is, and that’s the case in Group E as leaders Skellefteå AIK take on Kärpät Oulu.
Kärpät need to pick up points to keep their hopes of progressing alive. They sit second in the group, ahead of SC Bern and will be looking to keep it that way at the conclusion of the Group Stage. The former Finalists made it all the way to the Quarter-Finals last season, so they’ll be hoping to better that this season. They had some welcome news before the start of the tournament as Jesse Puljujärvi joined the side late in the summer and has put up four points through the Group Stage, and he’ll once again be a key guy to help Kärpät through to the next round.
Skellefteå come into the final Group Stage game top of the Group with 10-points, just a point ahead of Kärpät. Last week the Swedish side took a 2-0 victory over the Finns, with goals from Adam Pettersson and Thomas Pyatt with Gustaf Lindvall posting a 30-save shutout. Since then, Skellefteå have played twice in domestic action, picking up back-to-back victories, and they enter Game Day 6 in the driver’s seat to qualify for the second year running.
