- Lausanne currently sit top of Group D with 6 points, whilst the Pelicans are third with 4 points
- The Lahti Pelicans lost a 3-0 lead against Oceláři Třinec on Friday and allowed Třinec to score 4 goals in a third period comeback
- The first match between Lahti and Lausanne in Finland a week ago was very even - a shootout was needed to decide a winner
Just one week after a very intense and even contest between Lausanne HC and the Lahti Pelicans in Finland, both sides meet again in the Swiss city of Lausanne. The game that had to be decided by a shootout ended in favour for Lausanne on the night, despite Lahti taking an early 3-1 lead, but after Lausanne’s third period comeback, the game finished tied at 4-4 and went to OT. The game was extremely close – both teams had a similar amount of shots on goal and both goalies had the same save percentage. This time, Lahti will certainly look for the win, as their 4 points from three matches currently have them missing out on the latter stages of the competition. Despite Lausanne only having two more points, they sit top of Group D and will reversely be looking to strengthen their position as group winners and hold on to their spot.
Lahti’s first away game saw them take an impressive 3-0 lead against Oceláři Třinec, but after an astonishing 4 goal comeback in the third period, the game ended 5-3 for Třinec. Lausanne on the other hand dealt Yunost Minsk their first loss of the season in a 3-2 home win. Both teams need the points – Lahti to climb up, Lausanne to stay top, and we’ve seen that they are to very evenly contested sides. Can Lausanne use their home advantage to their benefit?
