- Adler Mannheim took OT victory over GKS Tychy in first game
- Matthias Plachta scored 53 seconds into overtime
- John Murray made 38 saves for Tychy
Action continues in Group F when Adler Mannheim play host to GKS Tychy of Poland in a rematch of a game that last week went to overtime, despite Mannheim outshooting Tychy by a total of 41 shots to 17.
Adler Mannheim currently sit in second position in Group F, just a point behind group leaders Djurgården Stockholm. The German side picked up five points out of a possible six on the road in their first two games, and as they return to home ice they’ll be looking to continue their impressive start. Mannheim started the season in convincing fashion with a 6-1 victory over Vienna Capitals, but despite heavily outshooting GKS Tychy in their second came, they dropped a point as they secured a 3-2 overtime win and will be hoping to convert more of their chances in the return leg. One of the surprises for Mannheim this year has come through one of their young rising stars. 17-year-old forward Tim Stützle is yet to appear in a DEL game for the German side, but through the teams opening two games in the CHL he’s already got a pair of goals, and is well on his way to raising his profile as a prospect eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.
Tychy may only have the one point for their efforts so far, following a regulation lost to Djurgården Stockholm in their first game and then the overtime loss to Mannheim. Netminder John Murray put in a heroic performance in their last outing by denying 38 of the 41 shots he faced, really putting his teammates in a good position to steal points from the contest. If the American born Polish international can continue that form on the road then Tychy could see themselves in with a good shot on their road trip, while they could also turn to Kamil Lewartowski instead.
