- Red Bull Munich picked up a 3-0 win in their opening game
- HC05 Banská Bystrica hoping for improvement following their 6-1 loss
- Last year's MVP Trevor Parkes already off to a good start with two goals
After going all the way to the final last year, Red Bull Munich got off to a fantastic start for the new Champions Hockey League season with a 3 – 0 win over HC Ambrì-Piotta, and on Saturday they play hosts once again as this time they welcome HC05 Banská Bystrica who will be looking for an improved performance from their 6 – 1 defeat to Färjestad Karlstad in their opening game.
Munich play their second home game in Saturdays meeting between the sides and will be hoping for more of the same from their opener. Munich goalie Danny aus den Birken put in a mammoth performance with a 47-save shutout, while last years CHL MVP Trevor Parkes scored two, with newly signed Derek Roy netting the German sides third in the contest. After such an impressive year last year that saw Red Bull Munich go all the way to the final, they’re off to a great start and will looking to continue that on Saturday.
Mitch Wahl was the lone goal scorer for HC05 Banská Bystrica in their opening game, while newly signed goalie Tyler Beskorowany stopped 28 of the 34 shots he faced in the opening game. The Slovakian side are yet to win their opening game in their CHL journey, however they’ll look for a repeat of last season where they bounced back from a 6-1 loss to JYP Jyväskylä, with a 5-2 win over HC Lugano in their second game.
