- Adler Mannheim scored 5 goals while letting in 0 in their first meeting with Cardiff
- Cardiff are coming off a 4-1 victory against Lausanne HC
- Both clubs split their first games and enter the second week with a 1-1 record
The Cardiff Devils will be looking for some revenge when they visit Adler Mannheim for Game Day 3 action from the SAP Arena.
Mannheim made short order of the Devils in their first contest, outshooting them 46 to seven and outscoring them 5-0. The Germans scored most of their goals in the first period and did so in swift fashion – scoring their first just 57 seconds in. Cardiff had their chances, but Mannheim stifled them all and ultimately came away with a convincing victory.
However, a rude awakening came in their second contest as the home team, Lukko Rauma, would have their way with the Germans, scoring five to Mannheim’s one. Just like that, Mannheim’s momentum shifted and they now enter Gameday 3 with a 1-1 record, hoping they can repeat the same success against Cardiff on home ice.
Following their 5-0 loss to Mannheim, Cardiff knew their next match was going to be another test as they faced an energized Lausanne HC. The Swiss club were coming off a hard-fought overtime victory over Lukko Rauma and were exactly where they wanted to be in the standings.
But the Devils showcased their skating legs early and capitalised on their chances, scoring a powerplay goal just over five minutes into the first period. They would go on to add three more as they skated away with all three points.
After splitting their first two games, Cardiff and Mannheim will look to keep the pressure on the other as they vie for playoff position.
