- Third period comeback saw Munich tie the first game
- Frederik Tiffels (Munich) second highest-points scorer in CHL this season
- Youthful Lukko fearless in first game
Red Bull Munich will be looking to pick up where they left off last week, after rallying back to avoid defeat against Lukko Rauma.
Munich found themselves trailing by two goals to a young Lukko team, until they fought back in the final period to take a finely poised Quarter-Final tie back to Germany.
After a scoreless opening period, Linus Nyman and Samuli Piipponen put the Finns in front before Frederik Tiffels and Trevor Parkes replied to level the scoreline.
Munich outshot Lukko 27-21 and with home ice advantage for the Return Game, the German side will have their sights on reaching the Semi-Final stage for the first-time since finishing Runners-Up in 2018/19.
Tiffels and Parkes continue to impress for Munich in the CHL this season after adding to their respective point tallies in the first game. Tiffels is second in the competition for total points after taking his total to 13, and the left-shot’s return of seven goals this campaign puts him joint-top of the list of scorers. Parkes’ six goals and six assists make him Munich’s second-highest scorer along with Ben Street, who didn’t register a point in the First Game.
Despite letting their lead slip last week, Lukko, Semi-Finalists in 2015/16, will take heart from the fearless performance shown by their young line-up. Lukko’s bottom-six forwards were composed entirely of Under-20 players in the first game, but they showed maturity beyond their years for a team competing in the latter stages of the CHL.
Scott Pooley (2G, 9A) and Arttu Ilomäki (3G, 5A) each had an assist in the First Game as Lukko’s leading point-scorers.
There is still everything to play for going into the Return Game.
