- Mannheim qualify for their third consecutive Playoffs appearance
- Lausanne look to top scorers to give them a chance of ending on a high
- The Germans defeated the Swiss 5-2 in their previous match-up
Having already qualified for a place in the Round of 16, Adler Mannheim’s match-up against Lausanne HC will be one that can guarantee the German club top spot in Group C, and what’s better, they could get to solidify it on home ice.
For the Swiss side, their season is coming to an unsavory end, but they still have hopes of finishing their campaign on a high note. A 5-2 defeat to Mannheim last week might provide the spark they need to get themselves going early as they’ve struggled to score first in four of their previous five contests.
Heading into Wednesday’s tilt, it’ll be on their top CHL scorers Lukas Frick, Cory Emmerton, and Christoph Bertschy to lead Lausanne into the fray and secure one more victory before all is said and done. In net, both Tobias Stephan and Luca Boltshauser have secured a win in 2021/22, so either option could give the Swiss a chance to surprise their hosts with an upset.
The Germans just need to maintain their dominant play that has seen them skate away with 11 of a possible 15 points so far. With their third consecutive qualification in hand, the DEL side have cemented themselves among the elite German clubs and will look to showcase their skill in the Round of 16.
First thing’s first, though, Nigel Dawes (3G,4A) and Borna Rendulic (2G,3A) will need to focus their efforts on their upcoming match-up against Lausanne to ensure top spot in Group C. In their win over the Swiss side last week, Dawes picked up an empty-netter giving him a point in all five CHL contests. He’ll look to continue his point streak heading into this match-up.
Mannheim’s goalie tandem of Felix Brückmann and Dennis Endras has been excellent this campaign with each posting two wins. But with Endras sidelined with an injury, it’ll be Brückmann’s chance to man the crease in this final Group Stage game.
