- Munich lead 4-2 after the First Game
- Danny aus den Birken stopped 28 of 30 shots for Munich
- Fribourg's goals came through Killian Mottet and David Desharnais
Red Bull Munich return home for the return leg in their Round of 16 clash against Friboug-Gottéron holding a 4-2 advantage from last week.
Despite falling behind early in the first game, Munich answered back with a tying goal from Justin Schütz in the first period, and then Jonathon Blum, Frederik Tiffels and Konrad Abeltshauser each scored in the middle period to grab a 4-1 lead, with Fribourg only able to respond through David Desharnais in the third to close the gap to two goals.
Now with the return leg shifting to Munich, the hosts will look to hold that lead, while Fribourg need to strike early to get back into the contest.
One key thing that Fribourg need to achieve is finding a way past Danny aus den Birken if he’s to start in net for Munich again. The German goalie denied Fribourg from using their shot advantage to help on the scoreboard, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced, while Fribourg also attempted almost 20 more shots than Munich in the first game with 53, but only 30 reached the target, and only two found the back of the net.
If Fribourg can find a way to the back of the net early to close the gap, then it could be a tense finish to the Round of 16 to see which of these two teams will advance to the Quarter-Finals.
