- Red Bull Salzburg have three wins in regular time and currently have nine points
- Jastrzębie have been competitive but unable to pick up a win
- In their last match-up, Salzburg got the better of the Polish side winning 3-2
Austrian side, Red Bull Salzburg have been steadily navigating through Group H with success. Their first win of the competition was a dominant victory over Norwegian side Frisk Asker. In their second game they won against JKH GKS Jastrzębie, but with a narrower margin of 3-2. More recently, the Austrian side tallied a second win against Frisk Asker 1-0, to record their third straight win.
The spread of points by Salzburg has been varied, but the two main forwards doing the damage are: American born 29-year-old foward Ty Loney and 30-year-old Austrian native Peter Schneider. Both players are in their debut season with Salzburg and have made an instant impact racking up the points. The duo have managed to net nine points between them over just three games.
Salzburg netminder Nicolas Wieser has played all but 13 minutes of the last three games, and has allowed a mere four goals into his net, giving him a goal-against average of 1.44.
Jastrzębie enter Sunday night’s encounter with an important goal to get rid of their winless record. The Polish side have fought tooth and nail to remain compeitive in all games, but have been dealt some disappointing final scores. In their most recent game against italian side HC Bolzano, Jastrzębie were taken down 3-1.
Czech netminder Patrik Nechvátal has played every minute of the team's games to date and has conceded eight goals, giving him a goal-against average of 2.60. Forwards Dominik Jarosz, Arturs Sevcenko and Maciej Urbanowicz and defenceman Maris Jass lead their team's scoring with a duo each.
These two teams previously faced-off at Lodowisko Jastor on 5 September, and although the Austrian's outshot Jastrzębie 33-19, the game was a closely contended one, with Salzburg getting the better of their Polish hosts. From a statistical perspective, face-off wins, hits, and shot blocks were relatively even between the two sides. Salzburg's main advantage was through special teams, including a better penalty kill efficiency, and a more effective powerplay conversion.
Salzburg currently sit at the top of Group H with nine points, while Jastrzębie have managed to take just one point in a shootout loss, in their debut game against Bolzano.
