- Score tied at 3-3 after the First Game
- Andrew Johnston scored in the final 10 minutes for Rouen to earn a tie
- Tappara need to be more clinical with their offence in the Return Game
After the First Game of the Quarter-Finals matchup between the Rouen Dragons and Tappara Tampere, there is still nothing to separate the two sides.
With Tappara hosting the first game, the sides played out a 3-3 tie, thanks to a late goal by Rouen’s Andrew Johnston.
Now, Rouen prepare to host the Return Game, with 60 minutes plus overtime to decide who’s Champions Hockey League season will continue after Tuesday night.
Rouen have had a stellar season so far, becoming the only French side to make it to this stage of the tournament, but for them, they’ll need more than just home ice advantage, they’ll need to find more offence. At times last week they were being overrun by Tappara, but luckily for them goalie Matija Pintarič was on fine form in net, so they’ll hope to not rely on him as much, but they’ll still need him to play a great game to give them a chance at going for the final four.
For Tappara, it was an unusually quiet night for some of their big hitters like Kristian Kuusella who was held off the score sheet, however, they did find scoring from the likes of Waltteri Merelä, Kyle Platzer and Kristian Tanus. For the Finnish side, who like their opponent have never reached this stage before, they’re going to need to capitalise on their chances more on Tuesday night to take an early lead and try to hold it until the final buzzer to make the Semi-Finals.
