- First appearance in this stage of the competition for both Tappara Tampere and the Rouen Dragons
- Tappara host the first meeting in the Nokia Arena
- No French side has reached this stage before, with Rouen being the first
Neither Tappara Tampere nor the Rouen Dragons have ever made it this far in the Champions Hockey League, as their Quarter-Final matchup gets underway on Tuesday night.
With the first game in Finland, Tappara will play hosts. After finishing top of Group E, they advanced out of the Round of 16 thanks to a 4-2 win in the Return Game against the Växjö Lakers. Recently it's been a mixed bag of results for the Finnish side. Since their win over Växjö, they've played four times and won twice in domestic action, however their most recent contest ended in a huge 7-0 victory, so they'll be hoping the momentum from that game continues into Tuesday night.
For Rouen, they're flying the flag for the nation of France, as no French side has ever reached this stage of the tournament before. In Group action, Rouen finished second in Group G, but they set themselves up for a Quarter Finals appearance after a big first game win in the Round of 16. After defeating Red Bull Salzburg in the first game by a score of 3-0, they held on in the second game, and despite losing that meeting, they held an overall lead to book their spot to play Tappara.
Similar to Tappara, the French side also have two wins from four contests since their last CHL appearance, and they'll need to hope that they can find their winning form on Tuesday as a tough test in Finland awaits.
