- Both teams confirmed out of the Playoffs
- Both enter with 1-4 records
- Fehérvár beat Katowice 4-2 last week
Fehérvár AV19 will end their Champions Hockey League debut in front of their home fans with a final clash with Polish side GKS Katowice. Both clubs enter the tie knowing they are out of the 2022/23 Playoffs and both sides have had a 1-4 record so far this season. Who will end their campaign with a final win?
Following last week's 4-2 win over the Poles away, the Hungarians will be primed for a repeat in front of their faithful home fans. They've scored a mere eight goals in five games leading to this game and only Janos Hari has recorded more than one in the net for his team. Only two players have recorded three points - Hari and Anže Kuralt, and the club have let a whopping 23 into their own net, an average of nearly five per game!
To be fair to the newcomers, they've had a tough draw having had to face reigning CHL Champions Rögle Ängelholm and Swiss giants ZSC Lions Zurich over Game Days 1-4 - a duo of opponents that would trouble even much more experienced teams in the CHL. If they are to end their European adventure on a positive note, they'll have to tap in to last week's productivity which saw them add their very first +3 to their name on Europe's biggest club ice hockey stage.
Polish side Katowice might have failed to beat Fehérvár last week, but they already picked up their first win of the season earlier, toppling Zurich 2-1 in OT in spectacular fashion on Game Day 2. The 2022 Polish Ekstraliga winners have scored 10 goals this season (two more than Fehérvár) and let in three fewer than their Game Day 6 opponents. Compared to Fehérvár, Katowice also boast a much more effective powerplay unit which is almost three times more successful than that of their Hungarian counterparts.
Bartosz Fraszko and Grzegorz Pasiut lead their team in goals scored (three each) and total points (five) which is a noticeable increase compared to Fehérvár's roster. Also unlike Fehérvár, Katowice came close to winning in their five prior games - their Game Day 1 clash with Rögle was decided by a third-period goal from the Swedes but could have easily gone the other way, with the Poles leading 3-1 at one point in the game. But with both side's final Group Stage game now here, it's now or never for the Poles as they search for that final win of the season!
