- Frölunda put 10 past Grenoble in first meeting
- Grenoble's special teams woes continue to haunt club
- The Swedes will get to end the Group Stage in front of home crowd
Frölunda Gothenburg will play host to Grenoble to cap off their 2022/23 Group Stage. Last time around, the Swedes lit up the scoreboard notching ten tallies as they cruised past the French by a 10-2 final.
Things began to spiral out of control for Grenoble early as Frölunda found the back of the net four and half minutes in and would continue to do so on a regular basis the rest of the match. For their part, the French were guilty of a number of penalties and consequently one powerplay goal against while their special teams, despite having five chances, were unable to convert.
Through five games, Grenoble have yet to take a point and have been outscored by at least three or more goals three times. Their two biggest losses – 8-2 against Eisbären Berlin and their most recent against the Swedish side – have been the product of undisciplined play. If the French hope to have success against the Goliath that is Frölunda, they’ll need to improve their special teams' play, especially on the man-advantage.
The Swedes were up and running early and never looked back as they completely dominated the French side for the full 60 minutes, even netting their tenth tally with less than three minutes to go in regulation. That kind of full effort has propelled Frölunda to their eighth consecutive Playoff appearance and is the stuff of a title-winning team.
With the chemistry continuing to build in Frölunda, the club continue to look like the lethal competitor of competitions past and are in prime position to do damage come the Round of 16. Sending one more shockwave through the CHL in their final Group Stage game would be the icing on the cake.
