- Mountfield looking for final win to seal Playoffs qualification
- Must-win game for Berlin to keep Playoffs hopes alive
- Mountfield enter match-up on nine points, Berlin on six
It's crunch time in Group G as Mountfield HK seek to seal their place in the 2022/23 Playoffs with a win against Eisbären Berlin but for the DEL side it's a whole different story as they are fighting to stay in contention for the Playoffs. If they slip up, they're out.
Berlin started their 2022/23 campaign with a bang, beating Grenoble 8-2 on Game Day 1, but they then suffered two defeats to the hands of four-time CHL Champions Frölunda Gothenburg before returning to winning ways with another win over Grenoble on Game Day 4. The Germans have scored 16 goals in four games which ranks them in the top 30% against other teams so far this season, but at the same time they've let 14 into their own net. Despite that, Tobias Ancicka, their main man between the posts, has a 90% save percentage from 160 minutes of game time.
Two of Berlin's forwards have been on fire with Zach Boychuk scoring five goals and ending the first four Game Days with an average of two points per game! Not far behind is Marcel Noebels who is on six points (2G, 4A). Will these elite snipers add more to their tallies against Mountfield?
Mountfield enter Game Day 5 with three wins and one loss and their place in the Playoffs is just one win away. The Czech Extraliga regular season winners and 2020 CHL Finalists have scored 14 goals so far with team captain Radek Smoleňák racking up four of them.
Despite scoring nine points and leading the way in Group G, the Czechs have struggled with their special teams - their penalty kill is operating at only 61% and they are yet to score on the powerplay... Adding to that is also the fact that 2/3 of their wins were only by a single goal, often coming late in the game. Will this be enough to hold off high-scoring Berlin and seal the win or will their Playoffs celebrations have to wait another week?
