- Rögle's top players have been on full display
- Fehérvár will look to continue their excellent PK
- The Swedish side took the first game
Following their Game Day 1 defeat, Fehérvár AV19 put on a much better performance in their match-up with Rögle Ängelholm . The Hungarian side kept the Swedes scoreless through 40 minutes and even managed to draw first blood on a rebound opportunity for Patrick Newell. Add to this their ability to kill off six powerplays – including an extended 5-on-4 Game Misconduct – and Fehérvár looked like a brand-new squad.
However, their inability to shoot the puck – they mustered a measly 13 shots on goal – was what did them in as Rögle frustrated every chance the Hungarian side had. Going into their rematch, Fehérvár will need to get more rubber to the net, especially from their heavy-hitters in Anže Kuralt and Alexander Petan who led the team in scoring last year. So far, the pair has combined for a point through two contests.
Back in Sweden, Rögle will have home ice advantage for their Game Day 3 and 4 fixtures. The defending Champions have made dramatic comebacks in both games to date but will be looking to strike first on home turf. Not surprisingly, their top skaters have been on full display thus far. Marco Kasper has two points (1G,1A) and Adam Tambellini scored his first of the tournament in their first match-up against GKS Katowice. However, the real story has been newcomer Riley Sheen who, after coming over from the Bietigheim Steelers in the DEL, has been the Swedes’ most productive player, notching two goals through two games.
For the home side, they’ll need their legs going from the start. While they’ve been lucky to outlast both opponents to this point, chasing the lead again could prove costly.
