- Only one goal between the two teams
- Tappara were more productive in last week's First Game
- Rögle have won all previous meetings
It's always a show when Rögle Ängelholm and Tappara Tampere meet in the Champions Hockey League. The two teams have clashed two times in the past and both games were decided by only one goal. Their Quarter-Finals Return Game will without doubt be another close game, where both sides will rely on their goaltenders and playmakers up front to be the differentiating factor.
Rögle beat Tappara for the second time in a row to take a one-goal lead in their QF series. The Swedes scored three in the first half of regulation before a third-period comeback by the reigning Liiga champions nearly lost them the game.
The 2022 CHL Champions wasted no time in getting into the game - just over two minutes in, Oskar Pettersson was able to get the puck over the line from within the crease. Linus Sandin added goal #2 only minutes later, while their third goal came in the second period.
After a slow start, Tappara finally got into the groove of things in the third period, scoring two goals, courtesy of Niko Ojamäki and Valtteri Kemiläinen, in four minutes to reduce the deficit to one ahead of the Return Game in the Nokia Arena.
Stats-wise, the Finns were the more productive team, racking up 31 shots on goal to Rögle's 21, while neither side scored on the powerplay. Calle Clang was great in net for the reigning CHL Champions, registering a save percentage of 94%+. The Finns also created 2.7 Expected Goals, while Rögle managed under 1.5.
Starting one goal behind, the Finns will have to more clinical in front of the net if they are to be the ones moving on to the Semi-Finals, while Rögle must hope for another solid night from Calle Clang in net as Tappara will be pushing for the equaliser from the very first puck drop.
