- Both clubs won on Game Day 1
- 15 CHL participations between the two
- Lino Martschini + Yannick Zehnder on 2 points apiece
TPS Turku will welcome back-to-back NL champions EV Zug to Finland for a Game Day 2 clash of two clubs that both took three points from their season-openers on Thursday. But only one can continue their winning streak in the second round of Group Stage games...
Turku faced off against CHL debutants Olimpija Ljubljana on Thursday and had some unexpected trouble with the Slovenian first-timers. Ljubljana scored the first goal of the game, but three quick goals from the Finns only minutes later put them into a comfortable two-goal lead. Ljubljana ended up scoring one midway through the final period but were ultimately unable to tie the game.
The Finns outshot their opponents 59-31 and recorded nearly double the number of shots on target. They were also very active in front of the Ljubljana net, keeping the puck in their opponent’s end of the ice for prolonged periods of play and with a 2.89 xG the Finns did well to score on all possible chances.
EV Zug also got off to a winning start on Thursday, beating DEL side Grizzlys Wolfsburg 5-2. The Swiss side outshot their opponents and controlled the game from start to finish, never falling behind their German opponents. Their quick passing play on the puck and great positional play caught Wolfsburg off guard on numerous occasions and lead to scoring chances - could this be the key against Turku?
Lino Martschini and Yannick Zehnder scored a goal and an assist apiece and will be looking to add into both columns against Turku.
