- Ilves looking to stay undefeated
- Färjestad have been getting contributions from up and down their line-up
- Both clubs have been among the league leaders in goals against and goals for
Ilves Tampere enter their Game Day 5 match-up against Färjestad Karlstad with a perfect record, while the Swedes accrued three victories and one loss through four games thus far.
In their last tilt with the Aalborg Pirates, Färjestad did major damage on the scoreboard, netting eight markers with multiple players securing multiple points including Oscar Lawner, David Tomášek, and Henrik Björklund.
Tomášek currently sits second in points on Färjestad's roster with four (3G, 1A) through four contests while on the backend, Carl Dahlström has been doing his part earning five helpers. Between the pipes, 20-year-old Carl Lindbom has been lights out with a sub-2.00 GAA (1.50) and an excellent 93.62 SV% having allowed only three goals.
If the Swedes hope to spoil Ilves’ bid for an undefeated Regular Season, Färjestad will need to maintain their stellar defensive play that sees them currently tied for first in goals against with 1.50. Where they’ll need some adjustment, however, is on their 19th-ranked powerplay which has only converted once on 12 opportunities.
On the opposing bench, Ilves have had a bit more success on the man-advantage with their fourth-ranked powerplay (26.67%) but haven’t been as dominant defensively on the penalty kill as they rank 11th league wide.
This notwithstanding, Ilves have found ways to win by scoring in all situations and come into the contest as one of two qualifiers for the Round of 16. The club's balanced scoring led by Šimon Stránský up front and Les Lancaster on the backend combined with their excellent goalie tandem in Jonas Gunnarsson and Jakub Málek have been just a couple of reasons why the Finns have had so much success over the first four Game Days.
As long as the Finns can find away to keep the puck out of their net on the PK, their bid for a fifth win shouldn’t be difficult to secure.
