- Rouen on the outside looking in of the Playoff race
- Mannheim's PK has been perfect so far
- The French side's defensive game is their biggest question mark
3-1 Adler Mannheim will meet 1-3 Rouen Dragons with the Germans looking to qualify for their place in the Round of 16 while the French are hoping to leapfrog the four clubs in front of them to put them into a better position in the Regular Season Standings.
In their last outing against Lukko Rauma, Mannheim demonstrated why they are one of the strongest clubs in the competition, thrashing the Finnish side to the tune of a 6-0 win. Six different players scored for the German side that opened the scoring 23 seconds into the contest and never let up.
Mannheim also succeeded in stifling Lukko’s powerplay, killing off all four opportunities to stay perfect at 100% PK efficiency. However, one area where the Germans will need to re-establish themselves is the powerplay where their 5.56% efficiency has them in 21st-place. Turning this around is possible, though, as they turn their attention to a French club with the highest goals against per game at 5.50.
Despite stealing their Game Day 3 contest against Skellefteå AIK, Rouen haven’t had much to write home about during the 2023/24 campaign. The French side’s 2.00 goals per game are ranked 19th while their penalty kill is ranked 13th with 81.25% efficiency. Rouen’s only bright spot comes in the form of their second-ranked powerplay which is clicking at 28.57%.
Heading into their match-up against Mannheim, Rouen will look to improve their numbers at even strength all the while finding ways to frustrate a German club that has scored three or more goals in three of their four contests this season.
