- Třinec's powerplay will need some adjustment
- Stavanger one of the few clubs still without a win
- Both clubs have struggled so far this season
The Stavanger Oilers and Oceláři Třinec are not so far apart statistically speaking. The Norwegians have potted 11 markers to the Czechs' 13 while Stavanger hold the edge in powerplay efficiency with 19.05% compared to Trinec’s 14.29%. Třinec, on the other hand, have performed better on the penalty kill with a 77.27% average as the Norwegians have struggled a bit more with only a 71.43%.
Heading into their Game Day 4 fixture, neither team outshines the other in terms of overall play and that means that either team has a chance to pull out a victory and earn some coveted points.
For 0-4 Stavanger, this is good news as they're currently searching for their first win, while for Třinec who are hoping to extend their season, adding three points could give them a chance to sneak into the last place for the Round of 16 bid.
To give themselves that chance, the Czechs will need to improve on the special teams front. Their 14.29% on the PP is currently ranked 15th league-wide while their lack of production on the blueline has also been one of their key weaknesses during the Regular Season.
However, Třinec have their bright spots, too, in Libor Hudáček who leads the team in scoring with two goals and four assists through four games, while their young netminder Patrik Švančara holds a 1.00 GAA and a 96.67% SV percentage and was excellent in his outing against a high-powered Lahti Pelicans offence.
Stavanger’s season has not gone the way the Norwegians were expecting and they can only hope to match their 2-4 record from the 2022/23 campaign in the final two Game Days. This starts with a win against Třinec and better all around results from the Eliteserien champs.
Forward Nick Dineen has scored in three out of four contests where he’s compiled one goal and four assists to lead the team in scoring. Meanwhile, Henrik Holm, who helped Stavanger steal some games last season, has yet to find his footing. This could change, however, against a Třinec team that isn’t so defensively savvy itself.
