- SønderjyskE looking for first victory
- Lahti have secured a single OT win so far and need points
- SønderjyskE have only scored two goals this season
SønderjyskE Vojens will host the Lahti Pelicans at the Sydjysk Sparekasse Arena on Game Day 4 of the Champions Hockey League. With both teams struggling at the start of the season, this match-up provides an opportunity for either side to change their fortunes.
The Danes are still searching for their first win after a rough start to the season. They’ve lost all three of their games, starting with a 3-0 defeat to the Straubing Tigers, followed by a 6-2 loss to Red Bull Salzburg, and most recently suffering a heavy 5-0 blow from Pinguins Bremerhaven. Their challenges have been evident at both ends of the ice, scoring just two goals while conceding 14. If SønderjyskE want to secure their first victory, they must improve both defensively and offensively. Another area that should be focused on is their powerplay, as they’ve only capitalised on one of 11 opportunities.
Lahti have had a slightly better run, managing to secure at least one win. However, it was in a shootout against Genève-Servette on Game Day 2. They’ve also had their struggles though, suffering heavy losses to Färjestad Karlstad (5-0) and most recently losing 4-2 to Skellefteå AIK. Sunday’s game offers them a prime chance to pick up much-needed points, but they’ll need to sharpen both their offensive output and goaltending to get the result they want.
Key players to watch for Lahti include Leevi Tukiainen, who has contributed two goals and an assist so far, along with Konsta Hirvonen and Tim Lindfors, who each netted a goal in their last game. Both teams will need to step up if they hope to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming clash.
