- Oświęcim's shot deficiencies need to be addressed
- Cleaning up on defence should be Klagenfurt's focus
- Both sides have lost consecutive contests entering this match-up
Austrian side KAC Klagenfurt were handed their second-straight loss in a 4-0 decision against Fribourg-Gottéron while Unia Oświęcim had their hopes of a first win dashed by Red Bull Salzburg in a 3-2 OT defeat.
For their efforts, the team from Poland have been a lucky bounce or two away from winning two of their first three Champions Hockey League games, but their inability to generate chances has been a key obstacle that Oświęcim have been unable to overcome. In their past three games, the Polish side has been outshot 42-14, 49-17, and in their most recent contest, 37-21.
Decent defence and netminding aside, to have a chance to win, Oświęcim will need to create chances in the offensive zone and generate more shots on net. Simple, but effective.
After winning their first contest of the tournament, Klagenfurt have now dropped two - losing by four goals in each - and have been outscored by a combined 10-2. While offence has been a concern for the Austrian side, a closer inspection of their defence should be their top priority as they are ranked sixth lowest in goals against per game with 4.00. Fixing things on the backend could spur some confidence up front.
Fortunately, they'll have their chance at redeeming their defence as they go up against one of the lowest scoring teams in Oświęcim who have only managed to manufacture an average of 2.00 goals per game.
