- Bremerhaven enter contest having lost back-to-back derbies
- Lukko's offence is among the most productive league-wide
- The Germans' Jan Urbas currently leads league in goals with four markers
After falling behind 7-2 to Grenoble, Pinguins Bremerhaven looked on par to manufacture one of the greatest comebacks in Champions Hockey League history, scoring three unanswered tallies to bring the deficit to within two, but a late goal by the French side's Valentin Grossetete dashed any hopes as the Germans fell for a second-straight time. Lukko Rauma, on the other hand, breezed past Eisbären Berlin 6-2 to earn their second win of the 2025/26 season.
The Finns are currently tied for first in Goals For per game with an average of 4.33 and their dominance over their German opponents showed why. Led by Alex Beaucage (3G, 2A), Lukko have scored three or more goals in each contest so far and have been able to produce in all situations, sporting a decent powerplay conversion rate of 23.08%, good enough for third league wide. With Lukko's lethal offence clicking at such a torrid pace, it will take a big effort from the German side to contain them.
Despite their recent struggles, though, Bremerhaven have shown flashes of decent hockey. Their Game Day 1 and 2 games were one-goal difference affairs with their loss to Grenoble seemingly an outlier experience. Nevertheless, being the third-worst in terms of Goals Against per game with 4.00 should be a stark reminder to the German team that their defensive habits need improving if they're to challenge for a place in the Round of 16.
In that regard, no matter who called upon to man the crease, both Leon Hungerecker - who secured the club's only victory, but who also allowed eight goals against to Grenoble - and Kristers Gudļevskis will need to recollect themselves and replicate their earlier play if the Germans hope to avoid an early exit.
