- Frölunda are four-time CHL winners
- Bolzano back for their fifth CHL campaign
- New signings Lindholm and Niederbach join Frölunda’s attack
Frölunda Gothenburg begin another Champions Hockey League campaign with the weight of history behind them. The four-time CHL Champions are the competition’s most successful team, having lifted the trophy in 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020, while also finishing runners-up in 2015.
They return for their ninth season in the competition, once again entering as one of the clear favourites. Under Head Coach Robert Ohlsson, Frölunda are setting their sights on a fifth CHL title, led by captain Max Friberg and veteran goaltender Lasse Johansson, who continues to rank among Europe’s best. To add further depth, the roster has been strengthened with forwards Max Lindholm and Theodor Niederbach.
Their opening opponent is HC Bolzano, the most successful club in Italian ice hockey history. The Foxes are back in the CHL for the fifth time after finishing third in the ICE Hockey League regular season. Bolzano have reached the CHL Round of 16 twice and are eager to progress further this year under Head Coach Kurt Kleinendorst.
Known for their offensive mindset and experienced line-up, the Foxes feature long-serving leaders such as Dustin Gazley, the creative force behind their powerplay, and new defenceman Philip Samuelsson, who adds valuable international experience.
Keep an eye on Frölunda’s Max Friberg, a two-time CHL champion whose leadership remains vital, and Henrik Tömmernes, widely regarded as one of Europe’s top defencemen. For Bolzano, new addition Shane Gersich brings speed and scoring ability, while Gazley’s experience and playmaking continue to drive their attack.
