- Grenoble were kept scoreless on Game Day 1
- Zug secured their OT win against Luleå
- First time face-off between these two teams
Game Day 1 of the 2025/26 Champions Hockey League was a scoreless affair for French champions Grenoble who went down to Swiss side SC Bern. With 18 shots on goal, the home side had limited chances, and ultimately couldn't squeeze a point out of their rivals. They'll now look ahead to get on the scoreboard against Zug during Game Day 2 action.
Grenoble netminder Matija Pintarič managed 27 saves, keeping his team within the clutches of a comeback throughout the night, but their offensive efforts went unanswered.
EV Zug, meanwhile, were on the road for their first game of the season and collected a thrilling 3-2 win in OT against Swedish side Luleå Hockey. Despite trailing a goal after the opening period, the Swiss side found momentum in the second stanza, netting two goals. Lukas Bengtsson was a standout, leading forwards and defencemen for time on ice and potting the game winner a little under three minutes into the extra playing time.
The pairing of Grenoble and Zug is a CHL first, with the two teams having never faced each other before, although Grenoble is yet to win a game against any Swiss team in CHL history. With the French side seeking redemption, and Zug hunting for back-to-back wins on Game Day 2, this game is shaping up to be an exciting encounter at the bouncing Patinoire Polesud.
