- Bern have reached two CHL Quarter-Finals to date
- Grenoble's head coach adds international quality with Weigel and Rantanen
Grenoble enter the Champions Hockey League as French champions, making their fourth appearance in the competition. The Brûleurs de Loups last featured in the 2022/23 season and are determined to show the progress of French hockey against some of Europe’s most elite clubs.
Head Coach Per Hånberg has strengthened his roster with key additions, including Swedish forward Fredric Weigel and Finnish defenceman Juho Rantanen, as the team look to make a strong statement on home ice.
Their first opponent will be SC Bern, one of the most successful and tradition-rich clubs in Switzerland. With 16 national championships to their name, Bern have long been a powerhouse both domestically and in European competition.
They have reached the CHL Playoffs on multiple occasions, including two Quarter-Final appearances, and return this season with the clear ambition to go even further. Head coach Jussi Tapola has already set the bar high, stating that the team’s ultimate goal is to win the competition.
Keep an eye on Grenoble’s Christophe Boivin, who continues to lead the offence with his scoring touch, and experienced forward Sacha Treille, a mainstay of French hockey. For Bern, captain Ramon Untersander provides leadership and reliability on the back end, while Tristan Scherwey’s tireless energy and physical play remain central to their identity.
This opening clash brings together the champions of France eager to prove themselves and a Swiss giant determined to compete for the title of European Club Champions, setting the stage for an exciting start to the season.
